Aug. 15th WT - WT Society Dissing Internet Again - All JW's Beware !
by flipper inwe always know when the gb or wt leaders are nervous and worried about potential alleged " threats " to jehovah's witnesses - because they repetitively keep mentioning these perceived " threats " in talks at assemblies or in wt articles constantly.. the " witness only " august 15th wt is no different.
in a non-study article entitled " the internet - making wise use of a global tool " once again the wt society instills doubt and fear into witnesses by " warning " them about use of the internet.
3 " while the internet can provide valuable information, save us time, and serve a useful function, it can also misinform us, consune an inordinate amount of our time, and corrupt us morally.

I'm guessing that watchtower.org would be safe, though! I wonder how the watchtower researchers decide which mushrooms are poisonous or not? And what kind of gullible person swallows down information from people who don't know what they're talking about, without unbiasedly checking for evidence to back up the claim, or even questioning the person? Hmm.. (No prizes for guessing what I'm referring to.)

Interestedone- If you have the time, and you think it may be worth it, would you mind pm'ing my list of questions to CJW, with the Jesus/Jehovah thing, and ask him to answer each one in order and number them? I'd do it except it sounds like he's still talking to you and he's probably left the thread.. If you do, thank you :)

Here's a few highlights from http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/disfellowship-shunning.php "Jesus did not say to never utter a word to an unrepentant wrong doer but to treat them 'as a tax collector'. He himself spoke to and ate with tax collectors. ( Matthew 9:11)." "Paul did not indicate that marking was only for non-serious sin as the 'word through this letter' at 2 Thessalonians included those not glorifying 'the name of our Lord Jesus', those refusing to work for a living, and any who had been seduced by apostasy. Paul did not say to disfellowship and shun such people, but rather instructed the congregation to 'mark' or 'take note of' such a person, yet 'continue admonishing him as a brother'. In similar vein the following scriptures do not instruct complete shunning of the person, but rather to take note so as not to be influenced by their wrong ways." "2 John is referring to the antichrist and should not be applied across the board to all forms of sin, as done by the Watchtower Society. In order to justify their stance, the Watchtower describes those that stop being Witnesses as apostate and of the Antichrist, saying that "the word 'apostasy'comes from a Greek word that literally means ''a standing away from'' but has the sense of 'desertion, abandonment or rebellion ... [and included] abandonment of right moral standards ... willfully abandoning the Christian congregation thereby become part of the 'antichrist." Watchtower 1985 Jul 15 p.31 In reality, many who stop being Witnesses continue to follow Jesus and Bible morals, buthave come to believe that the Watchtower Society is not directed by Jesus. Interestingly, John's advice here was not limited to former Christians. It included 'anyone' denying Christ. This included Jews that rejected Jesus and people of the nations worshipping other Gods. Yet the Watchtower stance is to apply this only to Jehovah's Witnesses. The meaning of the phrase 'never receive him into YOUR homes' should be understood in the context of the hospitality of first century Jerusalem." Marking, IMO, is scriptural, dfing as jws practice isn't..

The Trinity
by The Quiet One ini have a question, primarily for trinitarians, but anyone's more than welcome to comment.
what scriptural basis is there for believing in the trinity?
i can understand some having the view that jesus/jehovah both can be worshipped, and the view that jesus should be, but where in the bible is the holy spirit worshipped?

"Unlike JWs and others I do believe Jesus is everything his Father is. The only differences are eternity and position. That is what Father/Son means. My son is 4" taller than me and could woop my ass, but I am still the father. He is everything I am." - I don't quite understand what you're saying here, does your son have the same personality as you? Or do you mean he's the 'image of' you, in other words very similar in looks/mannerisms/personality? If I assume you mean he is like you in most ways, you might like this... http://bible.cc/john/14-9.htm New Living Translation (©2007) "Jesus replied, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don't know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?" "The idea is that God, as God, or as a Father, had been manifested in the incarnation, the works, and the teachings of Christ, so that they who had seen and heard him might be said to have had a real view of God. When Jesus says, "hath seen the Father," this cannot refer to the essence or substance of God, for He is invisible, and in that respect no man has seen God at any time. All that is meant when it is said that God is seen, is that some manifestation of him has been made, or some such exhibition as that we may learn his character, his will, and his plans. In this case it cannot mean that he that had seen Jesus with the bodily eyes had in the same sense seen God; but he that had been a witness of his miracles and of his transfiguration - that had heard his doctrines and studied his character - had had full evidence of his divine mission, and of the will and purpose of the Father in sending him. The knowledge of the Son was itself, of course, the knowledge of the Father. There was such an intimate union in their nature and design that he who understood the one understood also the other."

Concernedjw- Just in case you try to dodge any of the questions, feel free to change the word Jehovah to Jesus at any point, as he is the reigning King, isn't he? Just so that you don't reply that "no, Jesus is directing the organisation at this time", missing the point of the question. I'm not going back over the post and putting Jehovah/Jesus, but you have my permission to exchange those names if it means you will still answer the question. Thanks.

CONCERNEDJw: I have a number of questions that I'd really like to hear your views on, and I'd greatly appreciate it if you would take the time to reply to each one, simply and clearly. They do relate to the topic of mistakes, so please don't avoid them by claiming that I'm off topic. 1) Is the organisation you serve in, known as Jehovahs witnesses, Jehovahs organisation? 2) Is the organisation guided by the writings and instruction of the Faithful and Discreet Slave or their representatives, as based on the Bible, especially what is written in the Watchtower magazine? 3) Does Jehovah guide the Faithful and Discreet Slave in what is written in the Watchtower magazine and the directions and encouragement they give, or is what is written in the Watchtower just the opinions of men? 4) Have any understandings of Scripture, prophecy or otherwise, changed over the years, (or even changed back again) and been printed in the Watchtower magazine? If you reply yes to all of these questions, here's 4 more.. 5) Did Jehovah guide the Faithful and Discreet Slave in the writing of the Watchtower at the time that the (now) incorrect understandings were printed? Or does Jehovah not guide them at all times? If he was guiding them at the time, is he capable of lying to his people? 6) Would a baptised Jehovahs witness have been disfellowshipped for outwardly disagreeing with an understanding that was viewed by the Faithful and Discreet Slave as wrong at the time, but is now viewed by them as correct? 7) If the Faithful and Discreet Slave's current (and now surely correct) understanding of the Scripture, (that the prior mentioned Witness had told someone that he thought it to be a more correct understanding) , is guided by Jehovah, why would Jehovah want someone to be disfellowshipped for trying to tell someone about a more correct understanding, if Jehovah agreed with the understanding? Finally, is the organisation you obey directed by Jehovah at all times or are you merely following the direction of men who are not directed by Jehovah, and who make mistakes? Just something to think about. Thank you in advance for your replies.
